Students of the Month

March 2026 - Ailie Keller and Dax Lackie

Ailie is a fourth-year student who truly embodies the spirit of the Acadia Kinesiology community, making her an outstanding nominee for Student of the Month. She consistently excels academically, earning a place on the Dean’s List each year while also dedicating her time to supporting others.

Her passion for helping others is clear in all that she does. Ailie has taken on a leadership role as the S.M.I.L.E. yoga coordinator for Friday nights, creating a welcoming and supportive environment for participants. She has also been involved with Acadia Active Aging, fostering meaningful connections in everything she does, from engaging with S.M.I.L.E. participants to enthusiastically line-dancing with Active Aging participants. Her passion for working with children is evident through her three semesters with Kinderskills, where she has formed a meaningful bond with her buddy.

Ailie is also deeply passionate about coaching and youth development through sport. As a basketball coach for the Wolfville girls' Grade 6 to 8 team, she has spent the past two years creating a positive, inclusive environment where athletes feel supported to grow. Her focus goes beyond skill development, emphasizing teamwork, confidence, and genuine love for the sport. The girls have even petitioned her to return, reflecting the lasting impact she has had.

What truly sets Ailie apart is her character. She is incredibly kind and generous, always putting others before herself and finding joy in making people feel welcomed and valued. Her warmth creates a strong sense of belonging, making her highly deserving of this recognition.

Congratulations, Ailie!

I am pleased to nominate Dax for the March Student of the Month. A Dean’s List Scholar, Dax has served in numerous volunteer roles over the time he has been at Acadia. He is a candidate in the Athletic Therapy (AT) program and was formerly involved with the Cardiac Maintenance program.  Over the past two years, he has volunteered with the SMILE program.  Dax has been involved with the AKS for the past four years, serving in the role of year rep for each year he was here, and this year as the Grad Class Representative. Since there is only one other member of the AKS who is in 4th year, the group may be unfamiliar with all that is involved as the Grad Class Rep.  Dax coordinated the social events for the 4th years in first term, did all of the connecting with the class for decision re the grad. class gift, and recently pulled together the pictures for the 4th years for the slide show for the KINE Banquet. These may seem like menial tasks, but the grad class gift has been a huge undertaking with coordinating the purchase of the air hockey table for the lounge, the covers for the furniture, and the ordering and reordering of the flags for the display to be assembled in the lobby (that will happen this week).  It has been a lot. In addition, he undertook the collection and assembly of the many videos that were sent in by former students for the tribute to Prof. Ann Dodge during the banquet.  This was again a very time-consuming undertaking.

Dax is tolerant of the chirps and comments his friend group shares, and his own ability at self-deprecating humor is a big part of his personality, but he has a strong moral compass that guides his actions – he deeply cares for others, and that comes across very clearly when you are around him.  For all he has brought to the Acadia KINE program, I am happy to nominate him for the March Student of the Month.

Congratulations, Dax!
