Kate is one of the busiest students you will ever meet. She has filled every semester with as many commitments as she can and is known by many as a compassionate and enthusiastic individual, not only in the kinesiology program, but across both campus and the Wolfville community.
As a 4th-year Exercise Science & Training student and one of the Senior Strength and Conditioning Interns for the women’s basketball team, she constantly demonstrates her dedication and passion for kinesiology. Kate has also volunteered countless hours for a variety of programs, including Acadia Cardiac Maintenance, Active Aging, Active for Life, Kinderskills, S.M.I.L.E., and the Acadia Dance Collective where she teaches advanced highland choreography.
Kate has also held an executive role in the AKS for the past 3 years and helped form the Concussion Legacy Foundation in her second year. Her work ethic also extends across campus, where you may have spotted her in a variety of roles; This is her second year as a student manager at the Axe Bar and Grill, she’s returning for her third summer working as the lead for the summer accommodations front desk staff with Events Acadia, and she served as an RA in Dennis House during her 2nd and 3rd year.
Through all these commitments, Kate has maintained exceptional academic performance, earning recognition as a Dean’s List Scholar. Her ability to balance so many responsibilities while maintaining a high academic standard is truly inspiring. Kate is a remarkable example of dedication, leadership, and passion, and she is more than deserving of being recognized as Student of the Month!
Congratulations Kate!
February 2025 - Erin Sutherland
Erin is an exceptional fourth-year student and leader whose dedication to both her academics and community involvement sets a strong example for her peers. She consistently excels academically, earning a spot on the Dean’s List throughout the entirety of her time at Acadia. Her achievement of the Clarke K. McLeod Pre-Medical Scholarship also recognizes her outstanding academic performance.
Erin is also deeply involved in volunteer work, including her role with the Acadia Active Aging (AAA) Program, where she leads exercise sessions for elderly participants. Additionally, she is a leader for the Acadia-Wolfville Active Kids Exercise (AWAKE) Program, where she creates movement sessions for young students. Erin also serves as a Teaching Assistant, helping with courses in Human Biology 1&2, Biomechanics, and Exercise Physiology. For the past two years, she has taken on a key role in tutoring students with the specific challenges of Biomechanics. Erin also has offered support to peers at Acadia as a Kinesiology Student Mentor.
Her leadership extends to the Affirmative Movement Initiative, and as the coordinator, she fosters an inclusive environment for women, transgender, and non-binary individuals at the Acadia Athletics Complex. Erin’s ability to balance academics, leadership, and volunteering with a positive attitude makes her stand out as a member of the Acadia community. With her dedication and passion, there’s no doubt that she will continue to make a meaningful impact, and we’re excited to see all that she accomplishes in the future.
Congratulations Erin!
February 2025 - Mathieu Côté
I would like to put forward the nomination of Mathieu Coté for SOK student of the month. Mathieu has shown incredible dedication and selfless time towards many aspects of his student life at Acadia. Some would think that being a varsity athlete with the football team, doing an honours degree, being a part of the exercise science program as well as the strength and conditioning program would be an impossible task, but Mathieu accomplishes this all while having a smile on his face! Mathieu’s eagerness to do more is what reinforces the reputation of Kinesiology students coming from Acadia University.
On top of these numerous involvements, Mathieu has been a standout contributor to the Active for Life community, delivering classes in New Minas and Port Williams AFL, as well as Acadia AFL. Through S&C, Mathieu works hard with women’s Ball, and despite have suffered an injury before Christmas, took on more responsibilities as the equipment manager for the football team. Furthermore, Mathieu has two clients for Exercise Science practicum that he is leading proficiently. Lastly, his honours work with Dr. Jonathon Fowles has been nonstop overachieving work that displays an incredible independence, initiative, and interest in exploring new research interests! Overall Mathieu takes his academic involvement as a full-time job and is truly a professional at it. I really hope his work can get recognized as Mathieu more than deserves this title!
Congratulations Mathieu!

Avery’s impact extends far beyond the classroom. As Co-President of Exercise is Medicine on Campus, she leads initiatives that promote physical activity as a vital component of health and well-being. Her role as Vice President of Events for the Concussion Legacy Foundation highlights her commitment to education and advocacy in sports-related brain health.

Here she has provided invaluable support to fellow students navigating challenges in multiple core kinesiology and biology courses, including Human Anatomy 2, Biomechanics 1, Human Biology 1&2, and Physiology and Anatomy for nursing students.
